THE TEAM

Kosovo is one of the youngest football nations in FIFA. Politically controversial (that's probably a euphemism), the small country played its first unofficial match in 1993, but it wasn't until 2014 that it played for the first time as a FIFA member – against Haiti. Kosovo's first participation in a European Championship qualifier in 2020 was almost successful: in a group with England, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Montenegro, they made it to the play-offs in third place, but were defeated by North Macedonia. Since then, the team has just made it into the top 100 of the FIFA rankings in 99th place.

THE SHIRT

Even after owning 800, I regularly see and experience something new – and this Kosovo jersey from Italian manufacturer Erreà is no exception.

What shows more how strong your biceps is than a sleeve that threatens to burst under the great muscle power? That's what Lumbardh Dellova thought when he taped the sleeve of his jersey to make it tighter. When I saw this for the first time, I was very surprised, but after googling more pictures of him, I realized that this is a common practice of Dellova.

The Kosovars' classy third kit is black and gray and has golden details, such as the ironed-on federation badge.

The jersey was worn in the Nations League match against Romania, which will probably be remembered by many spectators due to its controversial ending.

After the score remained 0-0 until stoppage time, the Romanian fans began to provoke the Kosovars by questioning the country's independence and shouting nationalist paroles. As a result, the Kosovo players left the pitch, causing the match to be abandoned before the final whistle and ultimately awarded 3-0 in favor of Romania. The post-match riots also resulted in an iconic photo of Lumbardh Dellova wearing and my jersey provocatively making the Albanian eagle gesture towards the fans.
