THE COUNTRY

China and India have always shown very successfully that a large population is not proportional to footballing success. Bangladesh, the fifth most populous country in Asia with a population of 172,000, is also ranked eighth-last among all Asian teams and 186th in the overall FIFA rankings.

Accordingly, the “Bengal Tigers’” footballing successes have to be looked for with a magnifying glass. The South Asian country only managed to qualify for the Asia Cup once in 1980 – and lost all three games there. Only at the SAFF Championships in 2003 did they win a tournament among teams such as Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

THE SHIRT

The last Bangladesh jerseys clearly showed that “Made in Bangladesh” is not necessarily a sign of quality. Although the designs were certainly appealing, such as the 2015 model with the giant tiger head on the back, the quality usually left a lot to be desired.

At first glance, Bangladesh's latest jersey from domestic manufacturer "Stylia" doesn't look particularly high-quality either. However, if you look at the shirt up close, you can see that the entire jersey is decorated with a beautiful leaf pattern that has been stamped into the fabric. Unfortunately, all the badges are only sublimated into the jersey.

The shirt was prepared for Sohel Rana for the World Cup qualifier against Palestine in March 2024, which, like most of the matches in this qualifying round, was lost by the Bangladeshis.
